Internet Research Task Force Overview & Contact Data

The Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) is a prominent organization that focuses on promoting and coordinating research related to the evolution of the Internet protocols, applications, architecture, and technology. Its primary objective is to facilitate longer-term research issues, distinct from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), which concentrates on shorter-term engineering and standards-making concerns. The IRTF is comprised of several focused Research Groups, each working on specific topics such as Internet protocols, applications, and technology. These groups provide a stable, long-term membership environment that fosters collaboration and teamwork among researchers. The IRTF serves a diverse range of individuals, including PhD students, early career researchers, and under-represented groups, by offering travel grants and fee waivers to support their participation in research group meetings, workshops, and other IRTF-related events. The organization also organizes the ACM/IRTF Applied Networking Research Workshop and the Applied Networking Research Prize to encourage collaboration between the academic research world and the Internet standards community. With 16 Research Groups currently chartered or proposed for chartering, the IRTF provides a comprehensive platform for exploring various research issues.
