The International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) is a global trade and standards association for the electronic publishing industry. Established in 1999 as the Open EBook Forum (OEBF), the organization has undergone significant transformations since then, most notably in 2005 when it rebranded itself as the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) and expanded its remit to encompass a broader range of digital publishing interests. IDPF's mission is to foster the global adoption of an open, accessible, and interoperable digital publishing ecosystem that enables innovation. IDPF's primary focus has been on developing and promoting EPUB as the universal accessible interchange and delivery ecosystem for eBooks and other digital publications. EPUB is an open standard for digital publications, enabling the creation and distribution of eBooks and other digital content in a format that is accessible across multiple platforms and devices. IDPF's work in this area has been instrumental in advancing the adoption of EPUB as a widely accepted standard for digital publishing. In 2017, IDPF ceased operations as a membership organization and combined with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), a move that was seen as a significant step forward for the digital publishing industry. The combination of IDPF and W3C has enabled the development of a more comprehensive and integrated digital publishing ecosystem, with EPUB at its core. IDPF's legacy continues to be felt in the digital publishing industry, with its work on EPUB and other digital publishing standards remaining an essential part of the industry's infrastructure. As a global trade and standards association, IDPF has played a crucial role in shaping the digital publishing landscape and will continue to do so in its new form as part of the W3C.
